The Festival of Corpus Christi is the main fiesta of the city and is characterized with the turning on of thousands of light bulbs on the entrance gate of the showground. The Festival is usually in June and It was created by the Catholic Monarchs as Main Festival after the conquest of the city.
In 1573 began the shows with a procession and since 1632 there was also the “Paseo de la Ciudad” which consisted in a party parade with demons, giants, big-heads and the mythical Tarasca, a woman on a dragon. This two “procesiones” are still performed today. The Feria begins on the Monday before the Corpus Christi’s Thursday and ends on the following Sunday. A special place for it is set up in the outskirts of the city with stalls and funfair.
