OUR VISIT TO NORWAY

Today was our first day here in Norway. I woke up at 6:45, and we had to take the train to Kongsberg at 7:30 in the train station that is next to my house. In the morning I had a little more confidence with Katherine and we've been talking over breakfast.
We arrived at school at about 8:00 and for a start Erik, who is the coordinator of the exchange with Norway, has given us a talk at the Canteen about the objectives of this exchange, the topics to be discussed during our stay here, and he has explained a little what we will do these days. After that, we have divided in 4 groups to work on these topics, and each group's spokesman has received a laptop to work with it.
When we finished we had our first English class together that has given us a French woman, and we had to introduce ourselves one by one, and then she handed to us some poems to read in class. After a 10 minutes’ break, she has put us a documentary about the flora, fauna, climate and topography of Norway.
We ended at 11:30 and we went to the Canteen to eat together, and when we finished, half of us went to Norwegian classes, and the other half went to help with Spanish lessons. I have gone to Norwegian classes, and we have been learning numbers, colours, and simple phrases such as "My name is ____" or" I’m ___ years old."
They had prepared for us a treasure hunt to learn a little about Kongsberg, and in groups of 5 we have started with some difference of time. It was about finding several places marked on a map and answering a series of questions about them, the answers were to be found in the same site or asking people.
After treasure hunt we went to our homes to eat a little and then, at about 6:00, back to school to play volleyball and soccer against the Norwegians. They also bought food and drinks for later. And when we finished, we went home.

This morning we did the same that yesterday, and we have come to the school at about 8:00. At that time Erik has given us a talk to all the Spanish on the objectives of the Millennium, as well as proposals for a world without poverty, with less pollution, less war ... etc. Then we have done 4 groups for work about what we should do to pollute less at home, school, neighborhood, and country.
After finishing this we went to see Kongsberg church, dating from 1761, and they have given us a small talk in English.
When we finished our two minibus taxis were waiting at the door and led us to the factory of the company Kongsberg Protector, which produces, among other things, defense weapons. Once there, they have explained to us how the machines that they create work, and that they have 70% of the world trade of defense weapon. When we finished we have taken a tour of the facilities and the assembly line so we could see first-hand how they create high-tech equipment.
Then they left us a while to eat and they gave us sandwiches, cold drinks and coffee, to continue the visit of the naval area. In this part of the visit they took us to a ship simulator, which recreated all kinds of real situations, and we had the opportunity to discover how difficult it is to drive one. After we finished the visit, at the door other 2 minibus taxis were waiting for us to take us to the mountain.
In the mountain a guide was waiting for us to explain things about mining and the extraction of silver from the mountains, following the explanations we went to an excursion through the mountains toward a historical restaurant, which was founded in the twentieth century in 1927, where we ate. The journey from the mines to the restaurant was about 7 miles with a series of lakes and breathtaking landscapes. It was fantastic.
In the restaurant, they have prepared soup and bread with butter for us. Once we finished we went home with our Norwegian partner to have dinner, have a shower and sleep.
QUOTE: Norway, in my opinion, is a very beautiful country, but on the other side of the coin, it is a country that is enriched by the massive sale of arms to rich countries.

Saturday 18 September
Today we spent the whole day in Oslo. The first thing I have to say is that I love it. We visited the Viking museum, and I am disappointed that the museum was really small. Anyway, there was a big boat that was impressive. Then, we saw the port and some Spanish people had an expensive ice cream. No much later we went to eat to a pizza restaurant that was next to the port. Norwegians paid for it.
In the city there weren’t too many cars because many people ride a bicycle or take the tram. Many streets were only for pedestrians. All buildings, streets and parks were incredibly large. Oslo was a city that did not give the feeling of strain and stress that some Spanish cities give me because the city was so big and the streets were so wide that there wasn’t overcrowding. No store was too crowded even though it was a typical day for shopping. At least in Spain it is, on Saturday.
After lunch, we went to Vigeland Park. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
